VietNamNet Bridge – The Sea Tourism Environment Protection Week opened in the southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on Sunday with a call for residents to get directly involved in environmental clean-up and conservation work.

Vung Tau has been chosen as the first place to launch a nationwide campaign to protect the environment, in particular of the nation’s long coastline, in order to achieve sustainable sea tourism development.

The Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism are co-organising the event.

Vung Tau has been chosen as the first place to launch a nationwide campaign to protect the environment, in particular of the nation’s long coastline, in order to achieve sustainable sea tourism development, according to VNAT officials.
A public parade and cleaning up of trash at sea tourism sites as well as on main roads are some of the activities being organised during the event.
Local authorities will co-operate with social organisations to popularise the law on environmental protection and waste management. Citizens will also receive guidance on measures to treat waste.

The Sea Tourism Environment Protection Week 2009 will end on July 4.
