‘How can I get $1000 to rescue that turtle?’

One month ago, a young man spotted a marine #turtle being kept at a restaurant in Dong Nai province. Desperate to rescue the animal, he asked the restaurant owner how much it would cost to buy the animal’s freedom. The answer came back quickly: almost $1000! Luckily, the informant learned about ENV and informed us of the situation. The turtle was confiscated from the owner yesterday, and will be transferred to a nearby national park to live a happy life.
This case is further motivation for ENV to boost our communication campaigns to make sure more people know about wildlife protection and how to report wildlife crimes. We therefore recently launched the new design of our ‘Crime Card’, which enables anyone who witnesses wildlife crime to call our toll-free hotline or download our Wildlife Crime app.
