ENV Newsletter

ENV Newsletters Issue no. 8 (May 2013)
ENV’s most recent newsletter available for viewing

A new ENV newsletter has been released, and features a variety of exciting and informative articles about ENV’s recent activities and the status of the illegal wildlife trade in Vietnam.

Of particular interest is the spotlight on the ENV Awards for Outstanding Protection of Wildlife.  The spotlight article tells about the ceremony held at the Hilton Hanoi Opera on April 22, but perhaps more importantly, it gives credit to five wildlife heroes that are continuously fighting to save the nation’s wild animals.

The newsletter also contains a feature article about the Huong (Perfume) Pagoda campaign, in which ENV has endeavored to deter wildlife consumption. This campaign is crucial to fulfilling ENV’s mandate, as the Huong Pagoda festivals sees thousands of wild porcupines, deer, civets, and pigs illegally killed and consumed each year.

Additional newsletter articles report on ENV’s new rhino public service announcement, a recent volunteer appeal, ongoing rhino, tiger and bear conservation campaigns, and more.

ENV Newsletters Issue no. 2 (May 2012)
The latest ENV newsletter features an update in the ongoing battle to tighten the law on bear farms. There have been no new cases of local authorities allowing owners to keep unregistered and illegally obtained bears after paying fines, since ENV’s report highlighting this issue in September 2011.

Other activities covered in this issue include the preliminary results of ENV’s four-month investigation into the increasing rhino horn trade in Vietnam; the new series of advertisements featuring celebrities urging the public not to use bear bile; and the launch of a new initiative called Corporate Alliance for Wildlife Protection, which sees ENV partnering with businesses in its fight to address rising consumer demand for wildlife in Vietnam.

ENV Newsletters Issue no. 1 (February 2012)
The latest ENV Newsletter features new movement of the battle to end bear bile businesses in Ha Long Bay. Although the law against bear bile businesses is clearly established ENV with the help from volunteers and the public must continue to work closely on enforcement with provincial police and the Provincial Committee, and maintain regular surveillance to ensure compliance.

Other activities are also covered under this issue, such as the big travel of ENV Awareness Team through the length of Vietnam, from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh, to carry out activities with relating to stopping illegal hunting and trading of wildlife; the training sessions for Cuc Phuong Tourism Department staff; the successful ENV’s public awareness aired in various public venues in central Vietnam; etc.
